The Talker and The Doctor

The Doctor:

I know, I know...a little late on the doctor visit update...but, here it goes FINALLY...

On April 23rd, Luke went to the doctor for his 4 month check up. The appointment went well. Luke weighed 13 pounds, 15 ounces...I thought for sure he was going to be at the 14 pound mark...which I'm sure he is by now. He was 23 1/2 inches long, so basically, as the doctor so nicely put it, "He's smaller than average, but not smaller than normal. He is a well proportioned baby." Okay, doc - sounds good to us - I mean, me and Landis are not giants, so we shouldn't expect Luke to be very big either. :) The most important thing - Luke is a healthy 4 month old. He is growing and developing as he should. The worst part of the visit - THE SHOTS!! He received 2 shots in the same leg. He did fairly well - a quick, loud scream, but he was calmed quickly. Mommy and Daddy wanted to cry just as much as Luke did - Luke never cries and I mean that, he truly NEVER cries (he whines when sleepy and when he first wakes up in the morning, but no crying) so when he does cry, it sounds pitiful. Here are a few pictures of my handsome man after his appointment. You will notice his circus band aid in the second picture...you may also notice that he has one sock on and one sock off...we have a hard time keeping those tiny things on his feet. :)

Here are a few more pictures that I have taken of Luke in the last week...look at the those fat rolls...this baby needs to get moving so he can burn some calories (he, he)...
Speaking of calories, here's a little mommy side note...I am proud to say that I can now run 5K mileage (3.1 miles) with the BOB on a very hilly course in Archdale. I'm running slow...it takes me 35 minutes to finish, but at least I'm finishing...the stroller adds a whole new challenge to running, so I'm super excited to be meeting this challenge AND thanks to the running and the stroller, I am offiicially back at my pre-pregnancy weight and put on my skinniest pair of jeans this weekend - YAY - such a great feeling!! :)

The Talker:
Luke has become quite the talker. He talks in his crib, he talks in his jumparoo, he talks in his BeBe pod, he talks when I'm changing his diaper and when I'm carrying him around the house and most of all, he talks when someone is talking or singing to him. The little coos and sounds that come out make my day everyday. Here's a video of him talking to the animals hanging on his mobile one Saturday morning.

A few more quick updates:

Cereal: the doctor told us that we could start trying to feed him some rice cereal. We tried - but no success yet. He still has the reflex that causes him to spit EVERYTHING that goes in his mouth with a spoon back out. The doctor suggested that we try again each week.

Sleeping: Luke is no longer being swaddled because he is getting close to being able to roll over from back to front. I was a little worried that his sleeping schedule would mess up once we quit swaddling him, but, thank goodness, he is still sleeping from 9:00pm to either 4:00 or 5:00am. I get up for work at 4:00, so he is right on my schedule - no complaints!! :) I'm blessed with a good baby.

Mother's Day: As you mommies out there know, I wish I could describe how much I love this 14 pound bundle of joy. I still tear up everyday when I leave him to go to work and then I drive like Dale Earnhardt to get home in the afternoon. Luke is the light of my life and I thank God for this wonderful blessing of motherhood. With Mother's Day quickly approaching, I don't see the day as a day to make a big deal out of us mothers...instead, I see it as a day to thank God for allowing me to be a mother - the most precious job in the world. To all of you wonderful mothers out there - HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!

Happy Tuesday everyone! Have a great rest of your week!

Love,

Toddy
