2 Celebrations in 1!

The LONG Memorial Day weekend was a lot of fun for the Bumgarner family. :) We not only celebrated Memorial Day but Landis and I celebrated our 8th wedding anniversary. As you know, a part of the celebration required me to leave Luke at home without me for the first night EVER! I have to say that I am very proud of myself- I only cried once and it was just a few happy tears while Landis and I were talking about the little man.

Landis and I really had a good time - we were able to spend hours and hours talking - just me and him just like we used to do. Yes, we talked about Luke, but we talked about much more too - we talked about our life together - favorite memories, funniest moments, best vacations, our wedding, the million other weddings that we have attended, college days, our many blessings, Jesus, family, a little bit about work - you name it, we talked about it. We laughed and cried - it is such a blessing to be married to your best friend, and that's how it is for us - we are best friends and have been for a long time!

Just for the record book, here are some other details - we stayed at the O'Henry Hotel in Greensboro. It's a very nice place and the customer service was EXCELLENT! The hotel provided us with free transportation and super hospitality all night and morning long. We ate dinner at PF Changs. Landis has never eaten there and he loved it! It was delicious! Yum, yum lettuce wraps! After dinner, we sat out on a patio area all by ourselves at the hotel and that's when we talked for hours while listening to some quiet music. Then, on Sunday morning, we slept in until about 8:00 :) and then went to breakfast at Cracker Barrel. We were home to our happy Lukester around 10:30.

I missed the little man, but I am so thankful that I took that time with my hubby. Luke stayed with my mom ("memaw") whom he loves dearly, so I know that we missed him more than he missed us. I only texted my mom about 5 or 6 times through the night and morning to see how he was doing. I thought only 5 or 6 times was an accomplishment! :)

Not long after returning home on Sunday, Luke and I hit the ground running by going to Dan Nicholas Park with my mom and Lexi. We stopped by KFC for a bucket of chicken and off we went....we had our chicken picnic, which was delicious. Luke especially liked the corn on the cob....I wish I could've taken pictures of him literally planting his whole face onto the corn - it was great! I'm going to have to cook him some again soon so I can get a picture! :) After the picnic, we rode the train, the carousel and watched mom and Lexi drive the paddle boats. And, of course, played on the huge playground that Dan Nicholas has. I have to say though - it was quite hot!! The kids didn't seem to mind, but mom and I were roasting! :)

We concluded our Sunday evening by grilling out hamburgers with my mother-in-law and making homemade strawberry ice cream - yummy! :)

Monday was a little more low key, but just as fun! Luke and I started our morning out with a trip to Creekside Park - we went here for two reasons: (1) to let Luke climb, slide, and run and (2) so mommy could go for a walk. We accomplished our two tasks fairly easy - Luke played on the playground until he was ready for a catnap and then he took his catnap while I walked. A hot walk in a park could only lead to one thing - a trip to the pool! Instead of Founders, we decided to meet my mom at her neighborhood pool. We spent several hours playing at the pool. Then it was dinner time, bath time, and, unfortunately, bed time.

The weekend seemed to fly by....and Tuesday morning and back to work was here before we knew it! Nothing that I only had 3 more weeks of work helped me go back with a smile. As I write this blog, I have even less days than that....the students have 4 1/2 days of school left and I have 9 1/2 days of work left - not bad at all! I cannot even describe how super excited I am about spending my summer with Luke! I have already started our summer trip lists and I have also started my summer "around the house" to do list. I am hoping to get a lot accomplished! :)

For all those educators out there, have a great last week of school! Everyone, enjoy our Memorial Day weekend pics...
Here's Luke playing with his Noah's Ark inside the house...

I took this picture to show what happens to my living room/kitchen when Luke is playing - for some reason, he decided to bring every push/pull/ride toy that he has and put it in one spot...look at that mess....
Here we are on the carousel at Dan Nicholas....
Here are the pool pics....one of Luke's favorite parts of mom's pool is the water faucet...a friend of mom's showed him how to wash his feet off under the faucet and here he is trying it...
He would take cups and fill them up under the faucet and then try to drink the water from the cup, which ultimately resulted in spilling the water all over the place..

That is one refreshing looking picture, isn't it???

Okay....so, next post??? Maybe mid-week??? You will have to check back and see. I still have so many things to write about....I will be writing soon about my 2 day a week preschool program hunt - I'm visiting different area preschools in order to decide which program I want to put Luke in beginning in August...I can't believe my little man is going to start preschool, but sure enough, it's that time! :)

Check back soon....
