Here it goes....
Sunday was a very busy day for me and Luke....I'll post pictures from the weekend on my next post....Luke and I spent Sunday afternoon at "memaw's" pool, ran home quickly to take a shower/bath and then went back to "memaw's" house to celebrate my grandaddy's 75th birthday. The entire family was there - every aunt, uncle, cousin, spouse - we were all there! Super exciting, but very distracting to a 17 month old. Luke was so excited about spending time with anyone who wanted to hold him/play with him that he barely ate dinner. Because of his lack of food, I predicted this was going to be a rough night and boy was I right.
Around 8:00, I put Luke in his overnight diaper and his pajamas before loading him in the car - I knew he would fall asleep on the way home so I went ahead and planned ahead. About 5 minutes into the ride - he was out like a light! The car puts him to sleep like a champ! He did drink a cup full of milk before passing out so I thought, maybe, just maybe, he will sleep through the night - WRONG!
He slept from 8:15 to 10:30. He woke up at 10:30, mad as a hornet - I tried to give him some milk and rock him, but he just couldn't get settled. Around 11:00, he still wasn't going to sleep. I was so worried that he was hungry so I brought him into the kitchen to see if he would eat something. Well, as soon as he saw that Landis was still awake and he saw lights, he decided that he didn't need to go to bed - it was time to play! He started whining to go outside - really???? Outside, now, it's 11:15! Well, this reasoning made no sense to Luke - why not stay up and play? He didn't have anything special to do the next day - he could sleep in - forget about mommy going to work.
I begged Luke to eat some yogurt, I tried to give him some crackers, I tried fruit, even goldfish, but to no avail. He didn't seem interested in food, just going OUTSIDE! :) I tried to take him to his room to read to him and to rock him to get him to settle down - nope, he wasn't having that - the absolute total fit began again. I thought to myself - I have two options - I can let him cry this out or I can put him to sleep an easier way - load him in the car! So....at 11:45, Luke, Landis, and I began driving. We drove for about 15 minutes and Luke was still wide awake - matter of fact, he was jabbering the whole way. Landis begins to get hungry so he says, "Let's go through a drive thru so I can get something to eat." Our choices were Burger King and Wendy's. As soon as we pulled into Burger King - the toddler in my back seat who should be sound asleep says plain as day - "FRIES". Landis and I jerk our head around to make sure we heard it right and he points to the sign and says, "FRIES" again! Oh my! That was the first time I've heard him say that - so, for that reason and for the simple fact that this whole problem started because I thought he was hungry, I got the child some french fries. He ate a few of them in the car and then we brought the rest home.....here is Luke enjoying his fries while watching his Mozart Sleepytime DVD!!!
On Sunday night, there were times that I got very frustrated with Luke. As I get tired, my patience dwindles - I think that's normal for most parents. But, thank goodness, during most of this ordeal, I tried to remain calm and just be thankful that I had a healthy baby boy - so healthy that he wants to play constantly. When I came to work on Monday and told my principal how exhausted I was and what happened, she so kindly reminded me to cherish these crazy moments. She has two teenage daughters and she said that there are many times that she wishes that she could rock them again - even if they were crying. She is so right! Just so right! One day, when I am sleepless because Luke is driving a car somewhere or he is off at college and I'm so worried that I cannot sleep, I'm going to wish that he would look at me and say "fries" from the back seat and that I would be able to pick him up and hold him and rock him.
To sum it all up, I've said it a million times on this blog - being a mommy is the best blessing God gives us - and, sometimes these little blessings that we are raising, test our patience, but we have to see the good in each situation and we have to cherish EVERY moment, even the trying ones! I love my midnight snacker, ya'll! I sure do love him! :)
One more quick tidbit before heading off to bed....I titled this blog, "Mr. Particular's Midnight Snack" because tonight while he was playing with his animal magnets, he did something that showed me just how particular he is...at first, he knocked down every animal on the dishwasher onto the floor - he did this quite forcefully and without any particularity. But, then...he started putting them back and as he did this, he would stick the magnet on the dishwasher, study it very closely, and then turn the animal piece to the correct, upright position. He did this to every animal piece. I was so very proud to see that he knew which way was upright and that he had the patience to take the time to get them right. Is this a sign that he will be organized??? If so, he gets that from his mommy!! (he, he) :) Here are some pics of Luke's organization....

That's all for tonight! Check back this weekend for some cute pictures from our busy weekend!!
