We will call Luke our little Halloween Blessing because on a day that was sad for all of us, he was able to brighten everyone's day. Let me explain....
On Sunday, Luke's 86 year old granny Otelia was put into the hospital because she was unable to stand up and walk on her own. After many tests, the doctor's cannot determine a definite problem except for the fact that she is getting older and weaker. The doctors did say that they would continue to work on the dosing of her medicines to see if that was playing a part in her weakness. The saddest part of all was that the doctor told Granny that she can no longer safely live by herself. This was devastating to Granny and the entire family. Granny has always been strong, independent, and able to get around on her own - telling her that she will need to move into a nursing home is the worst thing that could happen to her. Matter of fact, she broke down in tears. The family is still adjusting to this news and is now working on getting her settled into her new home - a nursing home in Lexington - by the end of the week.
Hearing this sad news about Granny had us all down but we knew one small thing that could cheer her up (even if just for a little while). That little thing is our sweet Luke. Granny has been looking forward to Luke coming to her house to trick or treat so when we realized that she wouldn't be home for Halloween, we decided to trick or treat at the hospital in Granny's room. :)
Early on Monday afternoon, we dressed Luke up in his Halloween outfit - which, as you will see, is a mini-golfer. He was super adorable! I present to you....mini-golfer Luke....
Because Luke is still small and doesn't quite understand what trick or treating is all about and doesn't need a ton of candy, we decided to stick with trick or treating at the homes of his favorite people - his family. The next stop that our Halloween blessing would go would be my Grandaddy and Mammaw Watts' house. When we arrived at their house, Luke climbed the steps, we knocked on the door, Grandaddy opened it and as soon as he saw his tiny visitor, his eyes lit up. See???

At Grandaddy's house, we had the best time playing with their dog, Kiki. She is the sweetest dog. We all went outside and watched her run and run and run. It was so funny to see her go wild! Luke loved it and Grandaddy and Mammaw loved watching him and listening to him talk. They haven't seen him in awhile so they were amazed at how much he is talking. Here we are watching Kiki while we enjoyed each other's company....

After leaving Grandaddy's, our next stop was Mammaw Carolyn's house. At Carolyn's house we were greeted by her 120 pound lab named Rusty. He was super excited to see us - so excited that it took three of us to get him to go in his room. :) Luke, once again, thought this was hilarious! At Mammaw Carolyn's, we checked out the renovations of her new house and Luke had a chance to get TONS more candy and snacks and to play the piano. See...

After piano playing, he got a few hugs from his sweet mammaw....
And, he tried to make a few phone calls...
After playing for awhile, we continued to our next stop - papaw Donnie's house. Even though we saw him at the hospital, Donnie wanted us to stop by so he could give Luke his Halloween present and add to his bucket. Donnie knows that Luke loves cards that play music when you open them so....guess what Luke got from papaw Donnie? A trick or treat card that plays music. It plays the funniest song with "yee-yaw" at the end. Luke would listen and smile and then say "yee-yaw" at the end. Check him out...

After many, many times of singing the song from his card and AFTER he ate a Reese cup and drank a Dr. Pepper, we headed home. :) When we arrived home, another one of Luke's favorite visitors had arrived....Papaw Dale. :)
Dad lives about 15 minutes away so I was so glad that he could come over to our house for a little while to see Luke in his outfit. Dad thought the mini-golfer was adorable! :)
I couldn't believe it, but when we arrived back at home, it was 7:30 and Luke still had his complete outfit on - even the hat. He didn't fuss about it, complain about it, or even act like anything was different. He just enjoyed seeing all the people that he loved. When we arrived home, I turned on our porch light. Luke enjoyed helping me fill the trick or treaters bags with candy. He just couldn't understand why they would leave so quickly and couldn't stay to play. :)
Even though Luke didn't seem to make a big deal out of his outfit or seem to even realize what this night was all about, the grown-ups on the other hand thought he was the sweetest thing ever! As we went from place to place, Landis and I talked about how much we enjoyed seeing Luke brighten the faces of his grandparents. I don't know what it is like to be a grandparent, but I know there has to be something extremely special about it because the light that comes on in their eyes when they see their grandbaby is priceless! On a night that could be about ghosts and goblins and witches and for our family could have been a very sad night, it wasn't that at all. It ended up being a time to celebrate the blessing of a child and to be thankful for having each other. What a Halloween blessing! :) Enjoy a few more pictures of our mini-golfer (or, in other words, a mini-blessing)....

Luke not only wore his costume for trick or treating on Monday night but he also wore his costume to preschool last Tuesday. Some of the pictures above were taken the morning before he left. That morning when I put his costume on for the first time, I told him that when people asked him what he was dressed up like that he should say, "I am a golfer like my daddy." He repeated this sentence for me several times so I thought he had this question mastered. Well, about 30 minutes passed and we didn't talk about the Halloween costume anymore - we just continued getting ready for work and school. When my mother in law arrived, I said, "Luke, tell Mammaw what you are dressed up as." He looked straight at her and said, "A golfball." Oh my goodness! That was hilarious! I guess the only thing his little mind could remember was that his costume had something to do with golf. He never did get this answer quite right even after more practice! :)
Like us, I hope that you and your families had an awesome Halloween! It's hard to believe that it is November already. It's going to be Christmas before we know it.
Before I go, here are a few pictures from our weekend fun. The first three were taken after Luke's nap on Saturday. As I previously posted, Luke is all of a sudden interested in stuffed animals. He puts them in his red car and pushes them. The other night he put them in a paper box and pushed them. He uses them to pretend - for example, I found his bunny rabbit on the potty the other day and I have found his Mickey Mouse sitting in his shopping cart. Because of his sudden interest, I keep a few of his animals at the foot of his bed for him while he sleeps. Well, when he woke up from his nap on Saturday, he saw the animals and piled them up on his bed. I saw him doing this on the monitor so I took my camera with me. When I got in there, this is what he looked like...

Thanks for reading! Have a great rest of the week!
