Making Jesus Smile :)

I think Luke made Jesus smile today....matter of fact, He probably chuckled. :) Let me explain.... While trying to pass some time at the vet (I'll tell more about that in a minute), Luke and I were looking at the picture on the front of the cover of his Christmas CD case....the picture shows a picture of Santa Claus playing the piano...I had already shown Luke in the car who Santa was....well, when I pointed to this picture again in the vet (about 30 minutes later) and said, "Luke, who is this?" Luke looked at me and said, "Jesus." Oh my! Landis and I thought this was quite funny and have a feeling that Jesus himself must have grinned. The only connection I can think that Luke has made here is the beard. In every Bible story that we read here at home and probably at his school, Jesus has a beard. Well, as you know, Santa has a beard too (it's just extremely white compared to Jesus' brown beard in the pictures). So...somehow, someway, Luke thinks Santa is Jesus. And, I have to say, that's not a bad thing - I mean Christmas should be all about Jesus with limited focus on Santa....so, maybe it just takes a toddler to remind us of what is important. :)

On this same note, I'm really proud of how Luke is picking up information about the Bible - he is picking up pieces of stories that we read here at home but many of the stories that he talks about are the ones that he learns about at school or with his mammaw. For example, yesterday he came home and started talking about Jacob floating on the water and then he said something about Adam. I'm not quite sure what pieces of the Bible he is mixing together or what story they told at school, but he seems to be paying attention. We will continue to work on developing these stories into lessons for him to learn from - for now, I will be thankful that he's taking an interest in what he is hearing about the Bible.

Now, on a sad note, the reason why we had to go to the vet this afternoon was because our boxer bulldog, Max, has a cancerous tumor on his back leg. We found the tumor about a week ago and took him to the vet this past weekend. The doctor biopsied it and told us that it did contain cancerous cells and she recommended removing it. The doctor did more blood work today and then he will go back again on Monday for the surgery. There is still a good possibility that the cancer is contained within the tumor and removing it will take care of it, but there is also a small chance that the cancer has spread to his muscles and/or nerves. We will know more information later next week and I will definitely keep everyone posted. Our Max is a sweet dog, and even though he's 8 years old, we sure do hope he is okay.

Surprisingly, we took Madi to the vet on Saturday also for her yearly checkup and she checked out to be in a great shape, which is not usually the case. It is usually Madi who has some type of infection or rash and needs surgery or medicine, but, her current meds seem to be working and the doctor said she looks great. She is starting to get the cataract film on her eyes but the doctor thinks this will be a slow progression. Her vision does not seem to bother her yet. So....for now, our Madi is healthy and happy. If she knew about her buddy Max she might not be as cheerful. :(

Some other Bumgarner updates...this past weekend was not that eventful....we just did normal weekend stuff - a trip to the vet, a bridal shower, a trip to the park, and an extra hour of sleep! :) Luke has done very well with the time change. Matter of fact, he has slept better the last few days than he has in a month. I know, I know....he will probably wake up for 3 hours tonight because I just said that. :) The bridal shower we attended was for my cousin Sabrina. Sabrina is a sweet girl and is marrying a great guy. The wedding will be in January. Luke had a great time visiting with all of the women folk at the shower. He mingled with my aunts and cousins and visited with my mammaw. He convinced everyone to give him WAY TOO MANY cupcakes and M and Ms and he attempted to help "clean up" the trash from the gifts. I was quite impressed that he was such a social butterfly. I mean for about 30 minutes, I don't think he even knew that I was watching him - he was just doing his own thing. Like I've said before - I guess that's a benefit of a large family - the kids just get used to being passed around and they learn to go to anyone - and, I have to say, my family is great! They love kids and take good care of Luke. :)

Here are a few random pictures from this weekend...

Check out the whiny face...

Some pictures from our trip to Finch Park on Sunday...

Luke pretended that this stick was a weed eater ....:)
Luke's food of the week seems to be a banana....he even says, "I'm a monkey" when eating them. :)

Here he is snuggling with George....

Here is a video of Luke one morning this week as he played on his couch. The night before he sang his song, "Wiggle it just a little bit" for me and Landis and did his dancing motions. It was adorable!!! I recorded it on the other video camera so when he sat on his couch the next morning, I tried to get him to do it again for this camera but he would say the words to the song but he didn't do the wiggling action like he normally does. That was a bummer! But, the video is still pretty cute.

Unfortunately, you will also get to see him whine a little bit...you get to see that fussy toddler side of him.

Oh....and, he had just watched our neighbor, William, get in the car and drive away so he wanted to know where he went. I had to remind him that William was going to school. Luke is quite the observer. He can tell us all of our neighbors' names and recognizes their cars when they pull in their driveways often before me and Landis even see them. We need to put one of those "Neighborhood Watch" signs in our yard. :) Enjoy the video....

I'm super excited about a 3 day weekend coming up and Luke and I have something super fun planned for our morning off on Friday. Of course you will hear about it soon....:)

For everyone else enjoying the Veteran Day Holiday, have a great LONG weekend! :)

Good night,
Toddy
