Potty Training - Part 3

Alright, ya'll - so, anyone who reads my blog knows the following about my precious little boy, Luke - you know that he is super smart with high language skills but has been quite the trouble maker when it comes to sleep attachment and paci attachment. A quick summary would be - he didn't sleep all night until the age of 2 AND right now, we still struggle to get him to fall asleep without someone in the room with him.  For months, I had to ride him in the car to get him to take a nap.  He was attached to a paci until March.  All of these things I just listed have been frustrating BUT, I have good news - there is finally something that Luke has caught onto quickly without much of a battle - POTTY TRAINING!

Ya'll, I cannot believe how easy Luke is making this potty training business.  I am no longer having to remind him to go to the potty. He is telling me when he needs to go and the most impressive thing is - he is telling me when he needs to go, even when he's not at home.  Let me give you two examples  - last night, Landis and Luke went to visit Granny Otelia at the nursing home while I went to a cardio dance class.  I put a real pair of underwear on him and then a pull up over those.  Landis said that after they were there for about 30 minutes, Luke said, "Daddy, I need to use the potty."  So, Landis held him on the potty that is in Granny's room and Luke peed.  That's awesome!

Then, this morning, I tried our first park adventure since we began the potty training.  We went to the park loaded down with extra pull ups, underwear, change of clothes and THE POTTY!  Once again, I had him wear big boy underwear with a pull up over them.  When we got to the park (we were there all alone- thank goodness), I put the potty in the corner of the fence and told Luke where it was.  I reminded him to let me know if he needed to potty.  After playing for about 45 minutes, he got this shocked look on his face and said, "Mommy, I need to potty. Carry me to the potty." (I think he had to go bad!)  I quickly carried him to the potty, moved the potty under a slide in the shade, and let him do his business.  He peed and peed and then did a huge stinky (right there under the slide in his potty).  I was SO proud of him!!!!  I wiped his bottom and off he went to play some more with dry britches and probably feeling much better.  While he played, I had my first adventure of figuring out what to do with the "things" in the potty.  (I won't give you those details. For all you first time mommies, let me just say - be prepared for anything!)  :)

So, to sum it up - I really think Luke is just a day or two away from being fully potty trained (besides night times) and we just started trying on Saturday!!!  He has gone almost 24 hours without an accident.  Oh - I should say this also - he woke up this morning and peed in his potty as soon as he got out of bed - his diaper looked like he had peed a little through the night but what I was most proud of was the fact that he knew to go pee pee after he woke up.  :) That a boy! Yes, he is still going to have many accidents but, overall, he has been fabulously easy to train and is 90% trained in 5 days!

Now, if I could only get this night time and nap time - "Mommy in the bedroom" stuff taken care of - oh, who am I kidding??? I have been working on that for over 2 years and don't have the guts to get it accomplished!  Maybe one day....:)

Here are some pictures of Luke in his big boy underwear playing in his big box house.  I also posted a video of him talking to Daisy, his new best friend.  Enjoy....

Oh...and yes, still stay tuned for pictures of my brother's wedding and Memorial Day.  I have the pictures uploaded to my computer but still haven't had time to upload them to the blog!

2 more days until my summer officially begins!  SO EXCITED!!!!!   Speaking of summer-here's a little side note - for the first time since Luke was born, I feel bathing suit ready if you know what I mean! :)  I have been working out like a crazy person - 5 to 6 days a week and I feel great!!!! :) I'm finally AT my pre-pregnancy weight - I would love to be below it!  I just bought 2 new bathing suits to reward myself! :)  Pool and beach - here we come! :)
