Summer Adventures: The Last Week

As expected, Luke and I had a great time during our last week of summer vacation!  I already posted about some things we did early in the week - here is how we ended our week and our last road trip last weekend.

(again - I'm going to mostly use my note taking form to save time)

Wednesday, August 15th:

-sweet during our run/walk around our neighborhood
-helped me at papa dales - he always says, "Let's go check on those stinking cats."  :)  (He really loves those cats but he gets those dramatic words from his Daddy, who despises cats.  :)

After our chores and bath, we headed to Burlington City Park for one final time on the rides!  Luke rode the cars first, as I would have expected. As he rode, he said, "This is fun!" as he smiled from ear to ear! He rode the cars and the helicopter a ton of times.  He stayed on the tractor on the car rides for like 5 or 6 rides in a row - he was all by himself - no other kids - just Luke and his tractor.  Matter of fact, he rode for so long that the ride operator just stood there at the fence and talked to me.  :) He took a quick break to swing for a little while.  Then, we rode the pig on the carousel, played on the slides, and then Luke went over to the bushes and started pretending. For a little while, he went into his imaginary world (which he does often) and told me all about the monsters in the bushes and how he wanted to feed them leaves like herbivore dinosaurs eat. I couldn't believe he remembered that word - but he did.  I eventually had to get him out of the bushes before he tore every leaf off.  :)  After our fun 3 hours at the park, we headed home and laid down for one of the last few times that we could take a nap TOGETHER! I love snuggling with my little man - I'm not a night time co-sleeper (as the term goes) but I'm all about being a co-napper! :)

After his nap, we went to the pool.  This time, Luke found him three older boys to play with.  He and the boys pushed his little speed boat back and forth around the baby pool. He did so good playing with them! He smiled the entire time!  When not playing with the boys, he was so content just floating around and playing in the water.

Here are some pictures from our Burlington trip:

Cheesy Man!

Feeding the monsters...

Luke is so silly!

Thursday, August 16th:

We had a fun morning together - we played on the big bed, I pulled him around on the blanket, we chased each other around the house and then we played a game with flash cards - I would put the flash cards at the end of the hall, tell Luke which one to pick up and then race him to it!  :)  We built a log cabin house, we made a very cute Bible bee craft, visited with baby Haley, read a ton of books, and, of course, Luke rode his lawn mower.

After Luke's nap, we decided to go visit Mammaw and Grandaddy.

While I was getting ready to go to Grandaddy's, I heard Luke in his room. All of a sudden, he started squealing and yelling my name. When I went in his room, he had built a  tower of Legos bigger than him and he was so excited about it! There are some cute pictures below that show his face.

Our visit with Grandaddy was awesome! Luke rode the tractor, played with the trains, sat on the lawn mower and listened to Grandaddy tell him stories about trapping squirrels and rabbits and then letting them go. Luke listened intently and then told Grandaddy about the monster at his house. Grandaddy and I sat on the front porch and watched Luke mow and fix things with all of Grandaddy's tools. While Luke worked, Grandaddy talked about the Bible and how good God is. He told me that he has read the New Testament 50 times. That time with my Grandaddy is so special for me and for Luke.

Before we left, Grandaddy gave Luke a quarter for mowing the yard.  When Luke took the quarter he said, "I think I might put this in my piggy bank." When we got home, he put it in his piggy bank and told Landis how he earned it. He was so proud of his money!

Little side note - a new saying that cropped up from Luke is this, "Mommy, I have a clever plan."  (And, I'm always a little concerned about what that clever plan may be.)  :)

Here is the BEE Bible study craft that Luke and I made....he used an ink pad and made thumb prints and then we turned the thumb prints into bees....:)

This is the craft we did a few days earlier with the Bible Scripture on it about loving others.

This was Luke's attempt at coloring the bee's wings with me...
These are the examples that I showed Luke....

The amazing tower that Luke was so excited about!!! :) Look at that face!!!

Friday:
It was our last official day of my summer!

We went for a walk/run - Luke was awesome! He just talked to me the whole time. I love and cherish our conversations during that time. We stopped by the swings and slides (in our neighborhood) and then took care of papa's animals one last time.

We went to memaw's pool - had the best time ever! Luke literally squealed and talked and laughed the whole time. He wanted to get in as soon as we got there. Matter of fact, I had to pick him up off the ladder to put his float on because he almost went in without it. He was in the best mood. He swam back and forth to me and mom several times! In between swimming, we would twirl him around over and over. He and the girls built a fort and played in it. He would jump off the edge of the pool with me, Lauren, and Lexi.  I'm telling you - he ended our last official day with a bang!

After Luke's nap:
After Luke's nap, me, Luke, and Landis went to downtown Thomasville, which we haven't done in a long time. Our purpose was to try out a new restaurant that we have heard great things about, but, evidently, everyone else in town had the same idea because the wait was crazy long.  We decided, instead of waiting, to head across the street to the coffee and sandwich shop - Monkeez Brew. We know the owners and it is the cutest little family place.  While we ordered, Luke played with the monkeys and marbles at the front play/reading area.  Then, he ate sitting in the monkey chair at his own table. While eating, he just sat in the monkey chair and watched the man play his guitar. He looked so sweet and seemed to be enjoying his quaint little dinner.  :)

After our dinner, we walked across the railroad tracks to the new cupcake shop. Walking over the railroad tracks was super exciting for Luke! At the cupcake place, Luke picked him out a cupcake and licked the icing. He said it was delicious!  After our cupcake, we headed to the car.  Luke skipped and strutted all the way there.  We really enjoyed that night together - there was something special about taking in the sights and sounds and people of the best town in the world - Thomasville - with my favorite boys! :)

Here are some pictures....

These are pictures of Luke's picnic in the backyard. He likes to get out his picnic toys and "eat" in the very back of the yard. I always join him, of course!  :)

Saturday, August 18th:

We decided to take our last road trip on Saturday. We headed to the Charlotte Nature Science Museum.  We had a nice time! Luke enjoyed seeing all of the tall buildings in Charlotte as we drove to the museum. He was rested and ready to play when we got there!

Luke enjoyed the tunnel slide!
He loved seeing all the snakes, spiders, turtles, owls, and several other moving creatures...

But...his favorite part was playing in the outside camping, wood working, sandbox area - Luke dug in the sand, built him some "benches" from wood, played with sticks - he watched some older girls build a campfire to cook dinner so Luke built him one too.  He loved the outdoors!  Which is no surprise....
Working hard, as usual....

We came back inside for a potty break and Luke petted the real turtle - funny story here - the turtle was tucked inside his shell and Luke didn't believe that he was real so, with no warning, Luke kicked the turtle, which wasn't very nice (the turtle obviously stuck his head out and tried to walk away) - when I said, "Luke, why did you do that?" Luke said, "I wanted to see him move."  Oh my! Well, move he did!

His head out after Luke kicked him...
Back to work again...

Here are some other pictures from throughout the week...

Playing at Monkeez Brew with the marbles...
Watching the live music....
Eating his cupcake...

One night last week, Luke asked me if we could go the Y so he could play with the big tractor.  I said, "Of course!"  So, I took him to the child care room at the Y for about 45 minutes and then I took him to the playground at the Y after my workout. It has a huge sandbox that Luke loves!  This is Luke playing in the sandbox....he had dirt from his head to his toes!

Sitting in the chair with all of his friends....

Here are a few videos:

#1 - Luke building his Lego tower and then getting mad and yelling "Stop It!" when it falls over.  He gets that temper from his daddy.

#2 - Luke taking Minnie to the potty.

#3 - Luke at the Burlington park looking for monsters in the bushes and clarifying that dinosaurs that eat plants are called herbivores....

We are excited about the start of a 4 day weekend for MOMMY!!!!  I hope to post soon with pics and video from the air show last weekend and then whatever we do this weekend. We will definitely spend some time at the pool - probably go shopping for Luke some new shoes - and then Luke has his first day of school on Tuesday so I will post pics from that exciting day!  We met Luke's teachers on Thursday and they are going to be excellent! All of Luke's friends will be in his class again and a few more new ones. Luke can't wait to go back on Tuesday!  :)  Stay tuned....
