Wow! It sure is a beautiful night! Luke slept 15 MINUTES today with mammaw so needless to say he was very tired tonight and went to bed at 8:45, as opposed to his 9:30 or 9:45 normal bedtime. As a result, my hubby and I have some extra time to sit on the back deck and enjoy each other's company - he's playing his guitar while I blog! It's quite fun AND relaxing - which we both needed after a very busy work week! :)
Anyway - on to my blog post - last Saturday was Fun Day at Fair Grove. An event that all the Fair Grove staff and students look forward to each year. Last Saturday morning, Luke and I headed to Fair Grove to join everyone in the FUN!
As soon as we arrived, I was able to start introducing my pride and joy to my favorite people - the Fair Grove staff - they are like family to me and I enjoy introducing Luke to them. My usually talkative 2 year old was so shy when meeting everyone. He just clung to my legs. I was able to get him to give a few people some high 5's to loosen him up a little.
After speaking to a few people, Luke and I started looking for some activities he could try. His first stop was the fishing pond. Mrs. Grant helped him fish for a few bags. After he fished, he and I took some time to look in his bags to see what prizes he "caught." He caught a few pencils, some stickers, and some small stencil animals. The animals were his favorite and he wanted to carry those around with him. Next we headed to the bounce house. Mrs. Payne was impressed to see that Luke knew exactly what to do inside that big bouncy thing and he wasn't even scared! He immediately started jumping and landing on his bottom with the biggest grin on his face. He jumped and jumped until his time was up. When he realized his time was up, he did very well. He moved onto the next activity without a fuss. Our next stop was the putting green. Luke watched the other kids in front of him putt first and then he tried it. He did pretty good - never made a shot, but he tried his best!
While walking around looking for some other activities, Luke noticed that several people had popcorn. He loves popcorn, remember? So, I told him that we would head to the popcorn stand and get him some popcorn. He was so sweet looking for the popcorn stand - he just held my hand and stared at
everything around him as we walked toward the popcorn. We bought the popcorn and then sat down together on the sidewalk while he ate his popcorn. As he ate, the big real life tiger stopped by to say, "hello" to us. Luke gave him a High 5! He was a little nervous at first but after the High 5 and the Tiger moved on to another location, Luke kept looking everywhere for him and would ask me where the Tiger went.
As you know, last Saturday was quite chilly - it was like mid 50s outside. Luke and I were both ready to head inside for a little while. We went to the media center and looked at the silent auction baskets and
then headed down the hallway. Luke loves to go up and down the big hills in the hallways at Fair Grove. We went down the big hill next to the gym and Luke noticed that there was a playground outside the gym doors, and, when Luke sees a playground - he wants to play! So, we did!
We
ended up playing outside on the playground for almost an hour - just me and Luke. We had the best time pretending. Luke pretended to cook me dinner in
the little house. He would go from the house to the "store" to buy the food
and then back to the house again. He would ask me to come in his house so we could eat. We
pretended to eat on the picnic table, watch tv, and read books together. We
also pretended that the house was a restaurant with a drive thru window. At
one point, he said it was raining outside so we needed to go in the store
to stay dry.
When not pretending, Luke climbed the walls on the little slide set and slid
down. He thought it was funny to make himself slide so fast that he landed
right on his bottom. At the top of the slide, he wanted me to say, "Ready, Set, Go" before he would slide. He also climbed the wall on the big slide and
went down all by himself (landing flaton his bottom once again).
After he lost interest in the preschool playground, we went to
the purple Kindergarten playground. Luke climbed the big steps and slid down side by side
with me several times. He and I counted and said the
days of the week as we climbed the steps. We did this several times until Luke wanted to play peek a boo
with me over and under the purple slides. I would climb on top of the
slides while he was under them and surprise him with the side that I looked over. He
laughed so hard that he gave himself the hiccups. It was great! :) Luke ended his time on the purple playground by heading to the bars and rings thHe went to the purple bars and
rings and walked across these with
my help.
After running to my office for a quick bathroom break and to check in with Mrs. Wagner to see if she needed any help with anything, Luke and I headed to the yellow playground
for just a few minutes. He slid by himself on the little slides a few times and went down the big slide with me a few times. Before we knew it, it was time to head home for Luke's nap.
Quick interjection here - Luke loves my office. He makes himself right at home. :) When he visits school with me, he plays with the little school bus on my cabinet and pretends to type on my computer. He also "pets" Ms. Betty's bunny each time. :) On Fun Day, while I talked with Mrs. Wagner, Luke pushed his stroller all over my office. He was quite entertaining with his chattering and pushing. Luke seems to enjoy my office so much that he is now pretending to be at "Mommy's school" when playing at home. After spending about an hour at Fair Grove on Thursday night for a Parent Night that we hosted, Luke came home and went to his tool desk and said, "Mommy, I'm working at my school." It was quite cute! :) I'm glad that Luke relates mommy's job as a positive experience. My hope is that one day he will realize that Mommy works so that I can help other kids. :)
Anyway - back to Fun Day - around 1:15pm, Luke and I headed home. Luke fell asleep in the car on the way home. I put him in bed and ran back to Fun Day while he was sleeping to paint faces for an hour. Because I am FAR from being an artist, I was surprised when PTO told me that Face Painting would be the station that I would work. However, I ended up not doing so bad and I had a great time! The kids were great sports and laughed with me as I attempted to be an "artist."

I was able to return back home before
Luke woke up from his nap. As soon as
he woke up from his nap, Silas and Heather came over for a play date. The
boys played inside with the toys and then they outside for
awhile. Then, while Landis watched the boys, Heather and I went for a run.
It was so nice to enjoy a run with
no stroller and a good friend. This was the first time that Heather and I have
run together since the boys were born.
We were even able to talk to each other most of the time (until I thought I
might puke the last mile). :) Don't worry - I didn't puke and we made it home safely. As we arrived home, we found the
boys safe and smiling, watching Mickey Mouse and eating goldfish. That's
a normal "daddy sitting" routine - give them food and the TV to keep them happy. :) The boys were having so much fun playing together that we
decided to eat dinner together at Mi Pueblos - Heather went home and picked up Jay so that we had the whole crew! We ate a
delicious dinner with two well behaved toddlers and then ended back at the Lohr's
house for some more fun. The little boys played some more while the big boys (the
daddies) played their guitars. Luke loved petting Elsa, playing with Silas' train set, playing with play doh, and
riding Silas' blue car. He,of course,
pushed Silas' lawn mower and shopping
cart all over the house. Before we knew it, it was 9:00 and time to head home! I thought Luke would fall asleep on the way home, but he didn't. After some reading and rocking, it was 10:15 when Luke fell asleep! It was a long day but a very FUN ONE!! :) What another great day for us as a
family!
Little side note - during our rocking routine at nights,
Luke has all of a sudden decided that he wants to rock with the lamp on. He
pitches a total fit if I turn off the
lamp after we read. He wants to say our
prayers and sing with the light on.
And then sometimes having the light on
isn't enough. He is going through a
phase where some nights are a battle. On
Saturday night, it was so nice - I had no battle. Luke was so sweet. He laid back, looking
at me, and sang "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus" and "Oh, How I Love Jesus" with me.
We followed our fun day Saturday with
some great fun on Sunday! Sunday morning, Luke and I played inside and did our Wal-Mart trip. Then, during Luke's nap, I planted
some tomato plants. When Luke woke up, he mowed and mowed
and helped me water the plants. He rode with daddy on the big new lawn mower.
Luke and I played a little t-ball, drew with sidewalk chalk, and ended our
night with some painting on the
Thomas table on the deck before dinner.
After dinner, Luke played by himself
in his room and the play room while we
cleaned up dinner and did a load of
laundry. It's so sweet to hear Luke in the back bedrooms entertaining himself
with his Minnie Mouse characters, his
tractors, and his barn. He also had
his Roary DVD playing in the background. I gave Luke an early bath because he was SO DIRTY from playing outside. After his bath, I hid the letters of Luke's name in
the living room so he could find them and Luke and I pushed his truck
back and forth. Finally, around 9:30pm, we called it a night. After a small bedtime battle, we all laid our heads down, ready for the work week, thinking about the wonderful weekend that we had as a family!

One night last week Luke and I played peek a boo on the big bed after his bath. Here he is laughing as we played! We have so much fun, ya'll!!! :) Everyday is a FUN DAY!
Here is a video of Luke talking to us as he played on Daddy's lawn mower. :)
As always, we are super excited about our plans this weekend! Stay tuned to see what we are up to!
AND - I have to begin the countdown - 3 weeks of school until Memorial Day, which is also the weekend the pool opens and then 2 1/2 weeks of work after that and I'm HOME FOR THE SUMMER! Super, super excited, ya'll!!!! :)
Have an awesome weekend!
