Can you believe it? I am doing a mid-week post...it helps that I can stay up a little later because I'm not working tomorrow. I'm super excited to see what Luke and I get in to tomorrow. But, first...let me begin with sharing a few things.
First of all - a quick update on some new words that Luke is saying - he is now clearly saying, "trash" (because we ask him to throw away things in the trash sometimes), "car", "truck", and "side" (for outside). I have started limiting his paci to our house and the car (as much as possible) so he talks more when we are out and about staying busy. I love to hear him jabber - he tells me all kinds of things I just don't know what it is. Of course, I don't tell him that - I make sure to respond in some kind of sensible way. :)
Next, I have tried getting him to feed himself with a spoon, but, right now, he is not a big fan of this. He loves to pick up food with his fingers and he is doing much better at eating meat. Matter of fact, he has been eating everything that I cook for dinner. He even had the hamburger mixture in my tacos tonight (I mixed the meat with the cheese and sour cream and he loved it). I'm very glad that he is increasing what he will eat; however, I hope he will begin feeding himself soon. I am working with him each night, but he will only hold the spoon for a second before he puts it down and reaches to grab the food or requests that I feed him. I'm a little worried that he is behind developmentally on this skill - when should he be feeding himself? He's always been a step ahead of things when it comes to motor skills so I'm quite surprised that this isn't going well - I'll keep you posted!
Third, I'm very excited about mine and Luke's new tumbling adventures. I decided to attend a trial parent and toddler tumbling class last night. I wanted to see how Luke would do before enrolling in their summer tumbling program. Well, he absolutely loved it! He had a great time and so did I! It's a very cool class! Luke gets to flip, walk across beams, hang from bars and ropes, climb ladders and mats, jump on trampolines, and jump into the pit (with me by his side assisting him). It's great bonding time for me and him but will also help him with his coordination, strength, and listening and following directions skills. We are definitely going to attend for May, June, and July and will probably continue through the school year. I'll keep you posted on my little gymnast' progress.
Now, on to the fun at the park....last Sunday, look and I intended to visit City Lake Park in Jamestown; however, to our disappointment, when we arrived, we saw that the park was closed to the public that day. Because we were near Wendover Avenue, I decided to check out Gibson Park (I knew where it was, but had never drove by the playground). Well, I'm glad I decided to check it out. The equipment was nothing too special, but the fact that Luke and I had the entire playground and baseball field to ourselves was special and FUN! At first, Luke did the usual, climbed the steps and slid down the slides. Then, he saw the baseball fields and he ran toward the wide open space. He loved being able to run, run, and run. We chased each other around the bases - laughing out loud the whole time. Then, Luke explored the sound that a rock makes when it hits metal bleachers - good thing no one else was around because it sure was loud! Luke loved picking up dirt and watching it fall to the ground. You should have seen how dirty he was when we left! Red dirt - wow - definitely used the Shout when I got home. After fun on the field, Luke and I played peek-a-boo behind the climbing wall on the playground. He cackled out loud doing this also. Just wait until you see the pictures!!!! His personality is really developing - he loves to interact with me and other children or adults. He loves to be active and he loves new adventures! Just take a look at the pure joy on his face in the pictures below....
-build floating towers with blocks
-build his name and words with the sponge letters that stick to the bathtub walls
-fill and dump water from one container to another - Luke has all shapes and sizes of containers to do that with
-take lids on and off of the same containers he fills and dumps
-put bubbles on each other's face - Luke loves to smash bubbles on my face and then watch me make a funny face trying to get them off
-name his bathtub friends (the crab, fish, octopus, duck, and turtle)-we have repeated this so many times that now, if I line up all the animals on the side of the bathtub and I tell Luke which animal to pick up, he will pick up the exact animal that I name
-draw on the bathtub walls with the bathtub crayon (check out the pictures below-you can barely see Luke's art work near/on where I wrote his name)
Have a great rest of the week! We are over the hump!
Toddy
